The Company

Born in Marmelar, Vidigueira council, Alexandre Frade, in the midsixties, when he was around 12 years old, started to help his father at the Beja’s Rua da Biscainha tavern this one had acquired with the savings of the wheat cropping campaigns he worked before. The wine supplier was, then, the Vidigueira producer, José Mendes Carvalho.

Later, Alexandre builds a strong friendship with Carapeto, Bélbute, Augusto Palhaço and other producers, closely following the talha wine preservation process they had engaged on, mainly by establishing VITIFRADES, a talha wine tasting festival, and he assumes the commitment to also start a commercial valid wine production project, that can also contribute to strengthen the economic basis of its preservation.

After some small scale experiences carried out in the last five years in his «monte» (traditional house), and attending, in the last two, to the Viticulture and Oenology Superior Technical Degree Course (CSTP), at the Beja’ Polytechnic Institute (IPB), the conditions were settled to keep the promise done to his Vitifrades friends, to follow his passion and, particularly, to honour the memory of his father.

So ACV, Talha Wine Production and Trade, L.ted, came to be, in 2015 second semester.

This is a wine based project, but in which the historic component is indispensable. Beside the respect for the production procedures, and its originality, it is also fundamental to enhance the historical and museological features. For that we have, since the first moment, with the co-operation of:

Rui Mateus - Historian, responsible for contextualizing the past, for writing the leaflets information, and for image consulting.

Mariano Piçarra - Designer and museographer, responsible, since 2015, for the talha wine cellar interior decoration design.

Anabela Amaral - Oenologist, professor at the IPB, responsible for this area at the CSTP course and in charge of the laboratorial follow up of ACV wine production.
